Our director, Darryl Karp, describes Turd Burglar’s trucks as the do-all miracle workers in the field of waste removal.
“Our vacuum trucks do everything— from industrial waste to grease traps to car washes. They pump stations for local water authorities, septic tanks and builders’ toilets. We’re not a bobcat business or a freight delivery company; we are a bit specialised and generally job specific,” says Darryl.
Reliable and all-around dependable
Daryl uses Condors and UD Quons for the business. Recently, he’s been more fond of the UD because of their reliability. Daryl says that “customer service is our number one focus so you have to have reliable gear on the road all the time. UD trucks have been reliable… which is why I’ve gone back after the first truck and bought a second and a third UD.”
Who doesn’t love a bit of extra advertisement?
The main idea is that these trucks are equipped with everything the business needs to be dependable. In fact, when Daryl took over the business from his father-in-law over a decade ago, he wanted the UD trucks to be instantly recognisable.
“So when I bought the first of my new trucks, I had signwriting done all up the sides of the trucks with the emblem and the words ‘The Turd Burglar’– purely because everyone remembered the trucks when they saw them going down the road. (The trucks) are driving billboards for us. We have cars driving past and taking photos as they’re driving down the highway.”
Daryl was thrilled with how the trucks hit two birds with one stone. Traditional advertising isn’t exactly cheap, but with his custom vehicles, he was able to let the people of Melbourne know that Turd Burglar is operational and motivated to keep your place clean as a whistle where liquid waste is concerned.
The fact that the director has made numerous jokes about their name being ‘number 1 in the number 2 business’ means he loves what Turd Burglar is doing for the communities who need them.
“I think if you can’t laugh in life there is something wrong! My drivers are pretty happy driving the trucks around.” said Daryl
